SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Water for the Future: The initiative led by Ronny Stander and Hannelie Coetzee, focuses on the Jukskei river, which ‘daylights’ (a technical term used for when a river first emerges from the ground) at the start of the Maker’s Valley, near the Nando’s head office. Through the cleaning and flood solutions they hope to begin ot change the neighbouring communities view of the river.
1. Can you consider ways in which the odour issues could be mitigated so that the space could be altered into a public space that people use and can be proud of?
2. Can you think of innovative ideas for a digital system that is low-cost, safe and user-friendly to help monitor alien species along the river and assess growth of these plants?
3. Do you have any ideas that can help refine the ‘EcoSeat’ idea for se throughout Maker’s Valley to help alleviate surface water flooding and increase the time it takes to reach the river?
