SDG 5: Gender Equality
The lack of safe spaces for the queer community in South Africa transcends the physical boundaries which the community occupies. The first Pride celebration in Johannesburg was held in 1990 by members of the queer community in response to anti-apartheid las. After fifty-two years since the first Pride march in 1969 within the USA, Pride events are now a symbol of change that help advance and champion rights within the queer community.
Despite the advance within the queer rights movement, the need continues for work to be done and especially to include those in countries with strict anti-queer laws. In this 10% project we question how can the use of technology (the fourth industrial revolution) enhance Pride to create a more accessible and safer community for all?
